Bright fella.
I'd guess 35 points could the minimum target.

Palace have the easiest run-in.
Everyone else's is pretty much the same difficulty, having to play 3 or 4 of the bigger teams.

Standing anxiously in the Sir Trev Lower behind the goal on Sunday I felt the target was to score and not concede. Even though I would have loved some better entertainment. Thats what I wanted. That will be the goal. He's a pragmatist and always will be.

If Woy can't keep Palace up from the position they are in with the games they have then he needs taking out to the barn and putting out of his misery. For those reasons they could have just kept Vieira until the end of the season unless it was really bad behind the scenes. They are safe.
Every team there has potential to pick up 6-8 points looking at that, so we are in real danger still, but we still have the chance to make ourselves safe but it's going to involve winning a couple of away games as Leeds is the only thing close to a home banker we've got and even that isn't a given- and we could actually be down by then. Playing for draws or not to lose is no longer enough. At some point he's got to come out of his shell and put out a team to WIN games.

Some pundit on 5live reckoned 35 points was the safety mark. I am normally an optimist but the way we are playing at present I really don't see us reaching that target. Whilst other teams in the mire with us are busting a gut to get away and are picking up unexpected points we appear unfit, uninterested and are certainly underperforming.
A good win tomorrow evening would put that right but I don't see it. Go for it moyes and give myself and others a shock!!

I think it's the home games you have to look at. Those with the easier ones there have a much better chance of staying up. Palace and Leicester have the best run ins, which was always clear from their match schedule. Neither of them had a need to sack their manager to save themselves from relegation.
We on the other hand...We're second only to Liverpool for being better at home than away, but our remaining home games are all very difficult except the Leeds one. Having a game or two in hand makes us look better off, and a lot of these predictors use xG stats which show us to be much better than we actually are. I can well see us dropping back into the bottom 3 in the last fortnight and it will be very close if we escape at all.

Totally agree- Bournemouth are playing like their lives depend on it for example- and reaping results. Fortunately they seem the only ones at the moment but there will be unexpected wins for many of them. I just don;t see us as being brave enough to get any unexpected wins. The ultra pragmatic and cautious approach makes it so so unlikely.
We need 8 points and it's not easy to see where they will come from given most 'winnable' games are away and I believe we have gained only six points away from home in the league this year so far. We need at least one more away win and likely two. I can see us picking up maybe only 3 more points at home all season with what we have left and what those teams are fighting for. Grinding out a few draws would be acceptable against the likes of Arsenal or Man City but we need to go for it against Liverpool and Man U and try to play on their frailties. They can be got at if we are brave (Bournemouth) but they'll easily beat us if we retreat into our own half and let them have 70% possession.

Hope the Leicester game is not a relegation 3 pointer.

Our issue is that our strength is at home the five games we have left include Newcastle, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man U with the remaining game against Leeds. So how many points there?
Our away form is the worst in the league so Moyes needs to start upping his game otherwise it won't look good come May

The problem is, even when we go for it and do score he then takes off any attacking players, brings defenders on and tries to shut up shop. This invites pressure and we let in a goal or 2. When we concede first in a game he just tries to nick a goal on the break and not concede again rather than attack the other team. If we do score to equalise he then tries to defend the point. This will be our downfall, look at Bournemouth and Everton still going for it when behind and securing a win or equalising, that makes all the difference.

We do adequately when we concede 1st. 8th in the "points gained from losing positions" table, 9 points. The same as Bournemouth (although Bournemouth's have all been wins).
Everton have gained 7 points, from losing positions.

It's because when we are behind, we are actually forced to come out and play some attacking football and get teams on the back foot. And fuck me it works. There have been a lot of games where we've looked embarrassing and got dominated, and then when forced to pressure the other team, they suddenly don;t look anywhere near as good, and we do. How he can't see this would work from the outset I do not know.
When we sat back, Chelsea (yes chelsea who couldn't buy a win) absolutely pissed all over us and it could have been 0-3 after 15 mins if not for marginal offsides. When we put them under pressure, they crumbled. Sadly we only did it for about 10 minutes of that match. That one was eminently winnable, but the manager gave away all the initiative at the start and chucked away an opportunity of two points. If there was ever a graphic example of what happens when you meekly sit back vs what happens when you press forward, then that was it. They went from Real Madrid to Dad's army in a flash.

Fairpoint Westside I was more relating to recent games, Bournemouth in particular are really going for it beating Liverpool and nearly getting a result at Arsenal

A 6 points deduction for Everton will relegate them. If this gets carried over to next season then expect a repeat of the Sheffield United saga from the 3 relegated teams.
